Backsplash Makeovers for Loads of Style

Backsplash Makeovers for Loads of Style

Bringing the Wow to Your Kitchen Backsplash

I’ll never forget the day I first stepped into that dated, dingy kitchen – the kind of space that had been neglected for far too long. The brown wood cabinets were faded, the countertops were an eyesore, and the backsplash? Let’s just say it was a throwback to the 90s that no one was excited about. But you know what they say, “When life gives you an outdated kitchen, make a stunning backsplash makeover!”

Okay, maybe that’s not a common saying, but it should be! Because that’s exactly what we did with this kitchen renovation project in Aberdeen. The transformation was nothing short of jaw-dropping, and I can’t wait to share all the juicy details with you.

Finding the Perfect Backsplash Tiles

As I started planning this kitchen overhaul, I knew the backsplash was going to be the real showstopper. After all, it’s the design element that really sets the tone for the whole space. I scoured the internet, poring over inspiration photos and design blogs, searching for the perfect tiles that would bring this drab kitchen to life.

Now, I have to give a shoutout to Centsational Style for providing some excellent backsplash ideas. I was immediately drawn to the elongated gray porcelain hexagon mosaic tiles they used – the soft, muted tones were right up my alley. And the way they wrapped the tile around the window? Genius.

But I didn’t want to simply copy that look. I wanted to put my own unique spin on it. So I headed to my local I-Maxx Exchange Inc showroom to see what other backsplash options they had in store. That’s where I stumbled upon the most gorgeous blue-gray tiles. The color variation was just captivating – it had this beautiful, almost watercolor-like quality to it.

A Tile-Wrapped Window Focal Point

As soon as I saw those tiles, I knew they were the ones. I just had to figure out the perfect way to incorporate them. That’s when the lightbulb went off – why not do the same window-wrapping technique that Centsational Style used? It would create such a stunning focal point in the kitchen.

Of course, actually executing that plan took a bit of careful planning and math. Luckily, I had the expert team at ARCIFORM on my side to help me figure out the “tile take-off” – that’s the industry term for calculating the precise amount of tile needed to cover a specific area.

Once we had the logistics sorted, the tile installation was a breeze. I absolutely love how the blue-gray tiles frame the window, giving it such a beautiful, custom look. And the white grout really makes the pattern pop, don’t you think?

Mixing Tile Sizes and Shapes

But I didn’t stop there. I wanted to add even more visual interest to the backsplash by playing with different tile sizes and shapes. So along with the window-wrapped tiles, I incorporated some rectangular subway tiles in a horizontal layout, as well as a few accent tiles in a unique arabesque pattern.

The result is a backsplash that’s truly one-of-a-kind. It’s the perfect blend of classic and contemporary, with enough visual depth to keep your eyes constantly wandering. And the best part? I managed to pull it all off on a surprisingly tight budget, thanks to the amazing team at Floor & Decor who hooked me up with some incredible tile deals.

Maximizing the Backsplash’s Impact

Of course, a stunning backsplash is nothing without the rest of the kitchen working in harmony. That’s why I put just as much thought and care into selecting the other finishes and materials.

For the countertops, I knew I wanted something that would complement the blue-gray tiles without overpowering them. After much debate, I settled on a beautiful Carrara Bianco laminate from Formica. It has a lovely marble-like pattern but with a matte finish that keeps things feeling fresh and modern.

And for the cabinets, I opted for classic white shaker-style fronts from Unique Kitchens & Baths. The warm wood tones of the island and floors provide the perfect contrast, creating a beautifully balanced space.

Bringing in Vintage Charm

But it’s the vintage touches that really make this kitchen sing. I stumbled upon the most amazing old store counter at Aurora Mills that I just knew had to be the centerpiece of the room. With its weathered white oak and deep drawers, it adds so much character and soul.

And those light fixtures? Swoon. I worked with the team at Rejuvenation to find the perfect blend of vintage-inspired and modern, landing on a mix of enamel shades and sleek black hardware. The result is a utilitarian-chic vibe that’s just so inviting.

Tying it All Together

When it was all said and done, I have to say – I’m pretty darn proud of this kitchen transformation. The backsplash is truly the star of the show, but every single element works together to create a space that’s equal parts timeless and trend-forward.

And the best part? This kitchen isn’t just a pretty face. It’s also incredibly functional, with ample storage, a massive island for meal prep, and even a built-in coffee and wine bar. It’s the kind of kitchen that makes you actually want to spend time in it, cooking up delicious meals and making memories with loved ones.

So if you’re looking to breathe new life into your own kitchen, I highly recommend taking on a backsplash makeover. It’s amazing what a little tile, some creative design, and a touch of vintage charm can do. Trust me, the “wow” factor is totally worth it.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some serious cooking to do in my dream kitchen. Bon appétit!
