The Towel Tango: Finding the Perfect Hang

It seems like just yesterday when I would neglect my bathroom like it was my ugly stepchild. Back in my pre-pandemic days, I hardly gave that small but mighty space a second thought. But oh, how times have changed. Now, I find myself positively obsessed with every inch of my humble abode – and the bathroom is no exception.

This week’s fixation? Towels. That’s right, folks – I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole of towel storage solutions, and I’m not coming up for air anytime soon. You see, as someone who lives in a tiny apartment with limited square footage, storage is always top of mind. And in the bathroom, that’s especially true.

Luckily, I live with just one other human, so we don’t require a towel hoard of epic proportions. But still, I can’t help but wonder – how can I make the most of the precious little space I have? After all, a damp towel is a most unwelcome sight.

The Classics: Towel Bars and Racks

The classic towel bar is, well, a classic for a reason. It’s the tried-and-true method for drying your terry cloth companions, and it allows you to mix and match colors and patterns to your heart’s content. Plus, a crisp white towel combo is forever chic in my book.

If you’re team towel bar ’til you die, but you’re looking to refresh your bathroom, consider swapping out your old one for a new model. There are so many stylish options out there, from sleek and modern to classic and vintage-inspired. Here are a few of my personal favorites:

Delta Trinsic 18″ Wall Mounted Towel Bar
Latitude 18″ Towel Bar
Brooklyn 24″ Towel Bar

And if you really want to maximize your storage, a towel rack with built-in shelves could be the way to go. It’s a small-space dream, offering both the classic towel bar and some extra stashing space. Here are a few options that caught my eye:

Hotel Spa Towel Rack
Mercer Train Rack

The Hook Hack: Effortless and Chic

But you know what? If there’s any chance I can avoid folding something, I’m taking it. That’s why my personal favorite towel solution is the trusty hook.

Now, I know what you’re thinking – “But won’t my towel take forever to dry on a hook?” And you know what, you might be right. Humid climates can be a real pain when it comes to hook-dried towels. But fear not, my friends – I’ve got a couple of solutions up my sleeve.

First, if you have the space, you can install both a towel bar and a hook. That way, you get the best of both worlds – the quick-drying bar for everyday use, and the oh-so-convenient hook for those lazy days.

Alternatively, what I like to do is hang my towel over the shower curtain rod to let it air out, and then transfer it to the hook once it’s dry. Problem solved!

The hook is also a fantastic option if you’re short on wall space and want to free up some real estate for art or other decor. Just take a look at this guest bathroom in the mountain house – Emily installed a hook on the cabinet, leaving plenty of room for wall hangings and stylish storage.

Now, when it comes to hook options, the possibilities are endless. Here are a few of my favorites:

Trinsic Wall Mounted Robe Hook
Latitude 2 Wall Mounted Single Robe Hook
Townsend Wall Mounted Double Robe Hook

Basket Case: A Neat and Tidy Solution

Now, if you’re really strapped for wall space, a good old-fashioned basket might be the way to go. You can either roll your towels and store them vertically, or fold them and stack them up neatly. And let’s be real – there’s nothing worse than realizing a clean towel is nowhere to be found. A basket solves that problem in a stylish way.

Here are some baskets that caught my eye:

Black Braided Basket
Large Curved Basket
Wire Bin

The Ladder Leap: Vertical Storage That’s Oh-So-Stylish

But you know what’s really caught my eye lately? Ladders. Yep, you heard me right – ladders aren’t just for climbing and hanging blankets. We at EHD love them in the bathroom, and for good reason.

They’re like the really cool younger cousin of the towel bar – instantly modernizing a room and creating vertical storage options. Plus, if you have a smaller bathroom, a ladder is way less visually bulky than a storage cabinet.

Just take a look at the mountain house bathroom – the ladder doubles as both decor and function, drawing the eye up and filling empty wall space while holding those post-bath towels. Perfection, if I do say so myself.

Here are a few ladder options that have caught my eye:

Metal Wall Mounted Towel Rack
Hub Ladder
2 Piece Blanket Ladder
