The challenge was maintaining the original structure’s character while introducing contemporary elements for functionality and style.
Breaking Ground
The first step in our journey was to prepare the site for the new extension.
As shown in the image, we carefully excavated the area adjacent to the existing stone wall. This process required precision to ensure we didn’t compromise the integrity of the main structure.
Laying the Foundation
With the ground prepared, we set about laying a solid foundation for the new extension.
This crucial step ensures the longevity and stability of the new structure, allowing it to stand strong for years to come.
Framing the Future
As the project progressed, we began to see the extension take shape.
The image shows the roof framing in progress, with sturdy wooden beams carefully positioned to support the new roof. Notice the existing slate roof in the background, reminding us of the importance of creating a harmonious blend between old and new.
A Seamless Transition
One of the key challenges in this project was ensuring that the new extension complemented the existing stone structure.
We achieved this by applying a textured render to the exterior walls of the extension. The soft, neutral tone creates a subtle contrast with the original stonework while maintaining a cohesive overall look.
Let There Be Light
To flood the new space with natural light, we installed large French doors and windows.
These not only brighten the interior but also create a seamless connection between the indoor living area and the outdoor garden space.
The Final Touches
As the interior work neared completion, we turned our attention to the outdoor area. Using a Bobcat excavator, we carefully prepared the ground around the extension for landscaping. This final step ensures that the new addition is beautifully integrated with its surroundings.
