Transforming the Backyard Oasis
It’s August already, can you believe how fast the summer has flown by? As a resident of Aberdeen, UK, I know we only get a precious few months of warm weather to truly relish the great outdoors. That’s why I’m so eager to share my recent outdoor patio update with you – because we’ve been spending every possible moment out here, soaking up the sunshine and entertaining guests.
Our backyard has always been a haven, a place to unwind and connect with loved ones. But with this latest refresh, it’s become a true oasis, a space that’s more beautiful, inviting, and organized than ever before. I can’t wait for you to see the transformation!
Brightening Up the Dining Area
Let’s start with the dining zone. If you’ve followed my previous entertaining posts, you might recognize our wingback chairs that we’ve used around the table. But with the addition of a gorgeous new daybed in the conversation area (more on that later!), we knew it was time to switch things up.
Enter the Rosen bistro-style chairs from Safavieh. These beauties are the perfect complement to our existing pieces, with their woven texture, navy and white tones, and light wood frames (which are actually painted metal, making them ideal for outdoor use). I feel like I’ve been whisked away to the French Riviera when I’m seated at this table!
To really brighten up the entire patio, we also added new outdoor rugs from Safavieh. Our Hamptons-inspired Courtyard blue and beige striped rugs tie everything together seamlessly, adding a classic, coastal vibe. They’re incredibly durable too, standing up beautifully to the occasional Aberdeen rain shower.
Of course, no outdoor dining area is complete without a touch of indoor-inspired decor. I love to bring the indoors out when entertaining, using pieces like blue and white ginger jars, freshly cut hydrangeas from the garden, and a crisp, striped tablecloth to make the space feel truly special.
Relaxing in the Lounge Zone
Moving on to our lounge zone, centered around the gazebo, we’ve made some equally stunning updates. The star of this space has to be the absolutely gorgeous navy and white Pasadena daybed from Safavieh. It’s so comfortable and inviting, beckoning you to linger for hours, whether you’re enjoying a glass of wine with friends or sneaking in a midday nap.
To complement the daybed, we chose a beautiful and contemporary woven coffee table, adding natural texture and warmth to the space. And to further brighten things up, we incorporated new white planters, sheer white curtains, and these adorable woven poufs that I just can’t get enough of.
Mixing and matching different elements is key when it comes to outdoor decor. You don’t always have to stick to “sets” – I love the dynamic, eclectic look that comes from combining different styles and materials. And of course, no cozy lounge zone would be complete without a few statement pieces, like our gorgeous navy and white block-printed pillows and a chic ceramic garden stool.
Keeping it Organized and Protected
As a self-proclaimed professional organizer, you know I had to tackle the practical side of things too. Maintaining the longevity of our outdoor investments is crucial, so I made sure to implement some simple storage and protection solutions.
For our pool towels and throw blankets, I utilized vertical space in a closet with a hanging organizer, as well as some stylish woven baskets. And to safeguard our outdoor furniture and cushions, I turned to high-quality, waterproof covers from Safavieh’s Classic Accessories line.
These may not be the most glamorous aspects of the update, but they’re essential for ensuring our patio remains beautiful and functional for years to come. After all, what’s the point of investing in stunning outdoor pieces if they can’t withstand the elements?
