They scheduled their own inspections, which gave us peace of mind that everything was up to code.
Insulation and Drywall
With the utilities in place, it’s time to focus on the insulation and drywall. We decided to go with spray foam insulation for the bedroom ceiling, which saved us a ton of time and effort. For the walls, Craig installed the drywall himself, using fiberglass insulation and then taping and plastering the seams to create a smooth, durable finish.
Ceilings and Finishes
When it comes to the ceiling, you have a few options. You could go the traditional route and use drywall, which can be less expensive but does require more finishing work. Or, like us, you could opt for a more custom look with a vaulted or beamed ceiling. We ended up using a mix of 1×8 and 1×10 pine boards, which Craig painted to create a stunning focal point in the space.
In the bathroom, the shower was one of the trickier elements. Craig built the walls to fit the shower pan we had chosen, using cement board and multiple layers of Venetian plaster to create a waterproof, durable surface. For the flooring, we went with a beautiful hand-painted tile from Fireclay, which really sets the tone for the entire space.
Bringing it All Together
The final steps involved installing the vanity, fixtures, and IKEA wardrobes to complete the look. And let me tell you, that vanity installation was no easy feat – it was a true two-person job! But with a lot of patience and perseverance, we got it done, and the end result was absolutely worth it.
