The Vanity Decluttering Dilemma
There’s nothing quite like a good decluttering session, is there? That feeling of accomplishment when you finally get your bathroom organized is unmatched. Recently, I tackled my own vanity declutter and organization project, and let me tell you – it was a game-changer.
Now, I know the bathroom isn’t exactly the most exciting room in the house. In fact, it’s probably my least favorite when it comes to decor. But, you know what they say – function over form, right? And when it comes to the vanity, function is key.
As I discovered on my decluttering journey, the key to an organized vanity is all about clever storage solutions. No more random containers, shoe boxes, or toiletry bags haphazardly stuffed in the drawers. Nope, this time, I was determined to get it right.
Tackling the Vanity Chaos
So, where did I start? Like any good decluttering session, the first step was to take everything out and get rid of anything that was no longer needed or used. I’m talking expired products, half-used makeup, and all the other random bits and bobs that had accumulated over the years.
“Don’t you just love some good before shots?” I thought, as I stared at the cluttered mess that was my vanity. It was a sight to behold, let me tell you. But, I was determined to tame the chaos.
I had already installed a handy door storage unit to corral my hair supplies and taller bottles, but it needed a good clear-out and some organization to keep everything in place. And let’s not even talk about my husband’s side of the vanity – it was a disaster zone.
Drawer Organizers to the Rescue
Alright, time to get down to business. I started with the drawers, popping in some clear drawer organizers that clip together at the sides. These are perfect for keeping everything in its place, whether it’s makeup, hair tools, or just random bathroom essentials.
“I’ve used them in my own drawers for a few years,” I mused, “and they’re just so darn practical.”
Next up, the door storage unit. I lined the bottom with a piece of colored paper covered in clear contact paper, giving the products a flat surface to stand on. And to keep everything from toppling over, I simply placed an empty bottle behind the taller items to prop them up.
Corralling the Clutter
With the drawers and door unit all sorted, it was time to tackle the cupboards. I used some handy storage baskets to corral all the vanity items, from hairbrushes and hair tools to nail polish and accessories.
“My latest video on how to organize the freezer showed that I’m a big fan of these types of containers,” I chuckled. “And they work just as well in the bathroom!”
I even repurposed some storage containers from my daughter’s change table to organize the extra supplies, like cotton wool and ear buds. And you know what? I managed to restrain myself from labeling everything – a personal victory, if you ask me.
The Reveal – A Vanity Transformed
Alright, moment of truth – the after shots. “Love a good side-by-side comparison for a big pat on the back,” I thought, as I admired my handiwork.
Gone were the days of random containers and cluttered drawers. Instead, everything had a designated home, and I could practically hear the collective sigh of relief from my bathroom essentials.
Now, if only I could close my eyes and imagine the vanity painted white with beautiful new handles. A girl can dream, right?
The Moral of the Story
So, how do you keep your bathroom clutter under control? Have you had any organizing successes lately that led to even more projects? I’d love to hear about them!
As for me, I’m just grateful to have a vanity that’s not only functional but actually looks halfway decent. And who knows, maybe this little project will inspire me to finally tackle that bathroom renovation I’ve been putting off for the last 8 years. After all, a fresh new look and some clever storage solutions could be just what the doctor ordered.
